new fashion on the streets of the world . thanks barry for the info .
on the road , on the web , and on the beach persistence pays off .
in the loop or out . if you can dream and come back and find your glass of chai is still hot , those were good pipes . and if you can change language and still keep the thread going then we must be talking about art . or women . this cafe that mika is running is a great one . seems like the customers come from many different places . with many different accents .
as someone who speaks only english and the sign language of the road i still feel at home here . so if some one will please bring me another cup of chai i will continue to read and write . this is one of my favorite oasises along the road to the future . and i will tell my friends to stop at this place to refresh themselves and pick up the news of the road . . . . . .
right wing fundamentalist of all kinds [ political , religious , or whatever ] end up causing trouble for the masses in the middle of the mess . but you will find them in all religions and all politics . it is a good hustle and can be a well paying job . stir the pot , keep the masses off balance and attack the OTHER . doubting dhobi and doubting thomas . keep them out of the kitchen and do not let them feed the elephants . and vote against them when they run for election . and as a member of the masses in the middle of this mess that is life i try to remember that the world is always in balance , even when i can not see the balance or see the reason for the mess . i just keep on trucking in the direction that leads to good food , good friends and good conversation . follow the menu . . . . . may we all find what we need at our dining table , no matter who the cook is .
the glass . half full OR half empty ?
i do not believe that the planet earth is made for humans . the planet is . and not all humans can be accused of making a mess . and if in the end humans are gone then so be it . the rats and the cockroaches and the crabgrass will not miss us . i do not think that the worms will either . when the planet is not in balance it will explode or implode or dissolve or burn or drown OR . . . . . . . . but if you [ we ] believe in the all powerful god then we just have to trust that he knows what he [ she ] is doing and that is that . our perception is only that . perception . someone somewhere is always happy . and someone somewhere is always unhappy . such is life . and the happy and the unhappy are not always the same all of the time . the adaptable among us may be able to be happy more often than not . but the swing and flow of life is such that we have to take the good with the bad most of the time . if it does not kill us it should make us stronger . someone said that some time ago .
in my opinion god is all powerful . and in my opinion god does not care . he does not care who wins wars or football games . he does not care to mind us and he does not want to be bothered . as heidi says he built the divine in us and that was enough . for him and for us .
i do not want to get anyone started , but i do enjoy a good conversation . i enjoy it as much as i did enjoy a good drink . and as i do not drink anymore conversation will have to take its place . i will leave philosophy for the hindus and for the educated . me i just follow the path and see where it leads . and as water i usually follow the path of least resistance . the hard path i will leave for gandhi or martin luther king or nelson mandela or for those that make up the 1 or 2 percent of humans who do not believe in god .
and god does not care is not my idea . i heard it from kurt vonnegut . some book he wrote that i read in the land where a phone call to god is a local call . INDIA
facts of life
links i can send . whether they are art remains to be seen . i came to art as a collector . i was in india and started to see things . and some things i bought . i went back to the states in 73 or 74 for a month and stayed with friends in philly . everyone had these underground comic books in their bathrooms . so i brought a whole bunch of them back to goa . when i read them i thought of the story or the characters . but all of these french and german and italians who were hanging out in goa started to talk of the artists who made the books . what a revelation . so when i finally left asia and started to live in san francisco i ended up living close to this bar ' dick's cafe ' . and it was the hangout for all of the comic artist , poets and others . bingo . i started buying . and one thing led to another . and then i ran into mailart . and to collect that kind of art you had to participate , so participate i did . and what a joy that was . slap one rubber stamp on a blank envelope , mail it and get a masterpiece in return . so one thing led to the next and my level of participation grew and so did my collection . then i ran into the spray paint and stencil crowd and they were young and also broke . so i bought that also . soon i had no room left . but i did not stop . and then i bought a typewriter so that this broke artist who was also a gallery girl type could start to catalog the collection . and then i started to use in for my mailart as i did not like the look of my handwriting at that time . http://www.youtube.com/user/jesseedwards in those days i still had a bit of the army training left in my fingers so i could do kind of a good job at the keyboard . that skill has since left my fingers but i make do with my own style of typing . http://jesarchives.wordpress.com/ now for me all of these free web sites like myspace , FB , twitter , blogstream , bloglines , . . . . . . . are sketchbooks . it was this venice beach artist david hinnebusch who told me about myspace and he was the one who showed me that websites can be more that a cut and dried business method . check out hfilms.com or fakeart.net to get an idea of what he does . so i just started to play with idea and any time i heard of some new place i went there and created a presence and started to work and play with the format . i my self like the ones that allow a background image . just personal preference . http://jesarchives.blogstream.com/ so i learned the difference about all of these sites and as i learned i played . as the web got bigger so did i . i also lost many sites to the changing nature of the web and to the changing nature of the log in requirements . so now i just use the same user name and same password and the same email address for all of them . and thank god for google . the history saver . also for the web archive dot org . using the web archive i have been able to save some of the work i did on defunct sites that i no longer own
steve you are right . that we all love the good times . and talk about the good times and parties and girls and the fuel that we consumed . and who did what and who went where . who went there first and who went wherever with whoever . bla bla bla . . . . . .
but there is the story of the cost to us , the still living and the story of those who did not make it this far . all of our comments on fb include questions about where is so and so . and at least half the time the answer is that they are no longer living . and the some of ones who are still here remember seeing the missing in some jail in some foreign country . the way we see the story that we lived is different from the ways those who did not live would see it . and i wonder how BILAL of dipti's would tell our story . he was there almost every day as we came and went . to goa and from goa . from bombay to kabul or kashmir or katmandu . from bombay on this scam that worked or the ones that did not . he saw us broke and he saw us flushed with success . he saw us healthy and saw us dying . and he buried or burned many of the ones who did not make it . his story would be as interesting as any of ours . and maybe more accurate than any of ours .
so all of you guys keep doing what you are doing and as you are doing it remember the ones who can no longer live THE WILD LIFE .
PS . if any one knows where bilal is let me know . otherwise we should maybe set up a face book page remembering him and searching for him . he was really one of a kind . and i remember him almost every time i think of the WILD DAYS .

< --------------------------------------------------------widgets and music -----------------------------------------------------------> IT WAS IN THE 70'S THAT HE SHOWED UP WITH STEVEIE SUITCASE AND DENISE AND JULIE AND LITTLE BOY THE DOG AS I REMEMBER . IT WAS IN THE WINTER OR MAYBE IT WAS JUST COLD IN OCTOBER .MIKE AND SALLY WERE THERE ALSO AND TOM BOM AND CATHERINE .WE WOULD GO TO CHICKEN STREET AND AZIZ SUPERMARKET IF WE HAD THE MONEY FOR A LUXURY . I STAYED AT THE MUSTAPHA HOTEL MOST OF THE TIME AND AT THE HOUSE SOME OF THE TIME IN THOSE DAYS . and now i come back to edit all of these pages SO AS THIS BOY WAS SELLING SOCKS HE WAS NOT WEARING THEM . JESARCHIVES@YAHOO.COM Email: < --------------------------------------------------------so it was cold and wet with rain and then the snow came . overnight the place went white .-----------------------------------------------------------> AND WHEN WE WOKE UP the pipes froze . even though they had been wrapped in burlap . the pipes were on the outside of the house we rented in kabul and when they froze we had a guy come with a blow torch to unfreeze them . this house was on chicken street on the low end past the fruit and veggi market on the left side of the street . and nasir was the boy who took care of us and the house . in the day time i would wander the old city by the mosque and down all the side streets and then go across the river to the nixon bazar as it was called then . and with all of this new stuff going on with widgets i came back to work on the geo cities series . and i learned about the way to paste in this page builder program . artbooks and art and artists so this is for Jack Micheline artist and poet writer and painter horse lover and storyteller but about Jack Micheline he did like to talk about horse and poets and food . i met him long ago at dick's cafe in san francisco . on the corner of sanchez and 16th . rick london introduced me to him . rick is the author of ' the bones in the road ' and was the weekend bartender at dick's it was there that i met most of the arists that i knew from san francisco , before i found out about mail art . rick introduced me to s. clay wilson and dave geiser and many others at the bar and at other places . so jack was part of this crowd , at least when he was around . we would sit and talk about things i knew not much about and they knew a lot so i would listen or b.s. . from all of this came my interest in art . the stories and the studies and the beer and smoke . so i bought books and drawings and chap books and other things from jack over a period of years in the early 80's .
